Recycling assets could be considered taking shortcuts, but I like to think it’s more a matter of “if it aint broke, don’t fix it”. Re-using assets is not only a smarter way of working but makes sure you are delivering on your projects quickly and efficiently.

There are some clients that ask for an entirely new looking design, something that they haven’t seen before, but most are happy for things to look familiar. In fact in User Centered Design, keeping things simple and familiar for the user should be a key objective. This has got me thinking about designing my own Pattern Library and how to go about designing one from scratch. I thought that what I’d also do is document my process, since most Pattern Libraries are a living document, constantly changing and being added too,this will allow me to  see the project develop and also learn from my mistakes along the way.
